Marvilene Hagopian
Marvi is a passionate reading teacher and expert curriculum specialist with evidence-based training—and, most importantly, a mother who truly understands the hopes and concerns of parents and educators alike. When her own son struggled to read and write in public school, Marvi didn’t wait for vague promises that he would “catch up someday.” Instead, she became a relentless advocate, empowering not only her child but also families and teachers to confidently support every learner’s journey.
Marvi brings substantial professional expertise to her work, grounded in years of collaboration with parents, teachers, and leading researchers. She spent more than a decade at the Reading Lions Center / California Technical Assistance Center for Reading First, where she trained with respected researchers in literacy and reading instruction, including Louisa Cook Moats, Ed.D.; Marilyn Adams, Ph.D.; Barbara Foreman, Ph.D.; Edward J. Kame’enui, Ph.D.; John Shefelbine, PhD/EdS; Doug Carnine, Ph.D.; Reid Lyon, Ph.D.; and others. As a curriculum specialist, she led the development of six-week and end-of-year assessments for California’s state-adopted reading programs—practical, classroom-friendly tools that help teachers and parents understand student progress and target support where it’s needed most.
Her assessments cover every essential pillar of reading: phonemic awareness, letter naming, phonics, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing. Schools and families across California have relied on these resources—from K–6 English to K–3 Spanish programs—because they offer practical, trustworthy insight into student progress. Marvi also analyzed student data at every level, from individual classrooms to whole districts and statewide trends, always with one goal in mind: helping every child become a confident, capable reader. These helpful, easy-to-use tests are available for download at https://readingtests.info/.
Marvi designed her easy-to-follow lessons specifically for families and teachers: for parents at the kitchen table who want to help their child thrive, and for dedicated educators who never give up on a struggling reader. Each manual is intentionally affordable and accessible, inspired by the belief that every child deserves the power and joy of reading—no matter their background.
