What Are Elkonin Tokens?

• Elkonin Tokens are small tiles or chips that students move into a box for each individual sound they hear in a word.
• They are a hands-on, multisensory tool to help children understand that words are made up of individual speech sounds (phonemes)—an essential skill for learning to read and spell.

Who Are Elkonin Tokens For?

• Elkonin Tokens are perfect for children in PreK (using the Novice Program) and grade 1 and above (using Modules 1-5) who need help hearing and distinguishing the different sounds in words.

How Do They Support Learning?
