Lesson Content and Structure

• Module 1, Lessons 1–25, offers easy, step-by-step lessons that build students’ confidence and celebrate progress. Each lesson focuses on one sound and spelling—such as a short vowel (a, i, or o); a consonant (m, t, h, p, n, c, d, s, b, r, f, g, or x); or special letter combinations (vowel and consonant digraphs ar and ck). Frequent review and practice of earlier skills help students master the material, so you can keep moving forward instead of waiting for complete mastery of every skill in a single lesson.
• The words and sentences students read and spell increase in complexity from one lesson to the next. By Lesson 25, students can read and spell CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words such as map, bin, rod, and fix; one-syllable words (camp, hand, stand, drift); words with vowel and consonant digraphs (farm, scarf, back, trick); and two-syllable words such as ticket, backpack, and apart.
• English sounds and spellings are taught in sequential order from the most common to the least common.
• The dynamic lessons systematically increase in complexity.
• Lessons include decodable stories and poems at different reading levels, so that every student can succeed. These engaging texts captivate students’ interest and reinforce new concepts and previously taught skills and strategies, promoting lasting retention.
• Creative writing lessons start in Module 2, Lesson 30, and support the development of written expression.
• Cumulative word lists at the end of each lesson provide practice opportunities for students ready for a challenge.
• Helpful tips for English learners are included throughout the program to support success at every step.
• We recommend using our printable Sound/Spelling Cards and Elkonin Tokens—both available in our catalog—alongside Marvi’s Way® lessons to make learning more interactive and enjoyable. These tools help build skills and confidence quickly, and you can use them to create engaging games that make practice fun!
