Who is the Program For?

• Module 5 is the last manual in a 5-part series.  It is appropriate for students in grade 1 and above, as well as for those who have difficulty reading and spelling multisyllabic words.

Lesson Content and Structure

• The lessons in Module 5 (101-126) build upon the foundation laid in Modules 1-4, ensuring a continuous and comprehensive learning experience. These evidence-based, sequential lessons cover critical reading and spelling skills—such as phonemic awareness, letter recognition, letter formation, phonics, decoding (blending), encoding (spelling), fluency, and high-frequency words.
• Module 5 provides individual lessons on the following sounds and spellings: vowel diphthongs and digraphs (ou_, ow, aw, au_, oi, or _oy), /awl/ spelled al, long oo (spelled oo, _ue, u_e, u, or _ew), short oo (spelled _u_, or oo), and consonant digraphs (spelled _nk, kn_, ch, wr_, or ph). Review and practice of previously taught skills and concepts are ongoing.
• The words and sentences that students read and spell become more complex from one lesson to the next. By Lesson 126, students can read and spell words with vowel diphthongs and digraphs (bound, drowsy, shawl, author, avoid, and enjoy), /awl/ (chalk, almost), long oo (droop, glue, prune, truth, chew), short oo (jury, wool), and consonant digraphs (blink, knock, school, write, phone).
• English sounds and spellings are taught in sequential order from the most common to the least common.
• The dynamic lessons systematically increase in complexity.
• Lessons include decodable stories and poems at different reading levels, so that almost every student can succeed. These engaging texts captivate students’ interest and reinforce new concepts and previously taught skills and strategies, promoting lasting retention.
• Creative writing lessons support the development of written expression.
• Cumulative word lists at the end of each lesson provide additional practice opportunities for students ready for a challenge.
• Helpful tips for English learners are included throughout the program to support success at every step.
