Who Is the Program For?

  • Module 3 is the third manual in a 5-part series.  It is ideal for students in grade 1 and above, as well as for those who have difficulty reading and spelling multisyllabic words.
  • Our affordable, user-friendly manuals are designed to help parents, tutors, and practitioners quickly and effectively bring students up to grade level.

What’s Included

  • Every module has two versions, one for practitioners and another for students.
  • Links to extra resources help enhance practitioners understanding of the science of reading.

Lesson Content and Structure

  • The lessons in Module 3 (52-76) build upon the foundation laid in Modules 1 and 2, ensuring a continuous and comprehensive learning experience. These evidence-based, sequential lessons cover critical reading and spelling skills—such as phonemic awareness, letter recognition, letter formation, phonics, decoding (blending), encoding (spelling), fluency, and high-frequency words.
  • Module 3 delivers step-by-step lessons that break down new concepts into clear, manageable parts to help students build confidence. Each lesson is typically dedicated to teaching one sound and spelling at a time—such as a long vowel spelling (i, i_e, o, o_e, u, u_e, e, e_e, ee, or ea), a consonant spelling (ge, gi_, gy_, ce, ci_, cy, _mb, _s, v, _ti_, _ci_, _si_, or qu_), /er/ spelled ear, or an r-controlled vowel spelling (ire, ear, or eer).
  • Words and sentences that students read and spell increase in complexity from one lesson to the next. By Lesson 76, students can read and spell CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words such as has, his, vet, and vim — long vowels (bike, most, use, remote, these) — one-syllable words (climb, elves, live, quill, your) — vowel and consonant digraphs words (sleep, please, ginger, place, decide, motion) — /er/ words (heard, yearn) — and r-controlled vowels (fire, porch, shear, steer).
  • English sounds and spellings are taught in sequential order from the most common to the least common.
  • The dynamic lessons systematically increase in complexity.
  • Lessons include decodable stories and poems at different reading levels, so that every student can succeed. These engaging texts captivate students' interest and reinforce new concepts and previously taught skills and strategies, promoting lasting retention.
  • Creative writing lessons support the development of written expression.
  • Cumulative word lists at the end of each lesson provide additional practice and opportunities for students ready for a challenge.
  • Helpful tips for English learners are included throughout the program to support success at every step.
  • Our printable Sound/Spelling Cards and Elkonin Tokens and Boxes make each Marvis Way® lesson easier and more fun to learn. These tools help students build skills and confidence quickly—and you can use them to create games that make practice enjoyable!

  • There are no hidden training fees—your purchase includes everything you need to teach every part of each lesson. Optional Sound/Spelling Cards and Elkonin Tokens are available separately to further enhance your students learning experience.

See What Educators and Literacy Experts Say about Marvi’s Way®

…The graphics are attractive, and the stories and poems that children read are engaging and rich in interesting vocabulary. Marvi has created a MARVelous set of tools with which any child should be able to learn to read. Louisa C. Moats, Ed.D.

…the connected text, which is extraordinary in terms of its breadth and depth. The creator uses such simple, decodable words that I never thought of employing in such wonderful, innovative, and lyrical ways! I also really like the comprehensive aspect of it. My tutees get to practice sounds and high-frequency words with a nice rhythm of decoding and encoding, and a little motivating smile to fill upon completion. … — Amanda Tinnin, MA TESOL

…Most impressive is the phonemic awareness piece of the program. I have searched and searched for phonemic activities that grow as students' skills develop, and this program incorporates them into each lesson, including multi-syllable words. This program will benefit both tutors and classroom teachers, as well as small groups and homeschool families. It really is how an effective reading program should be — easy, effective, enjoyable, and research-based. I am loving it and have recommended it. — Kathleen Seeman, M.Ed.

I have been teaching for 27 years and am extensively trained in the science behind teaching reading! These materials are consistent with the research and are an amazing resource for tutors, parents, and even teachers. ….The materials are comprehensive and provide the scope and sequence needed to help any child to read, including children with dyslexia. … I highly recommend Marvi's Way: A Guide to Reading and Spelling. — Kimberlie Reed, Elementary School Teacher

Marvi has done an excellent job creating a tutor program that is educational and easy to use for tutors and yet doesnt oversimplify the complexity of teaching reading. …The front matter of the guides includes detailed information on the multi-part lesson structure, which remains consistent throughout but adds complexity over time. Suggestions for lesson enhancements, along with tips and video examples, are embedded throughout. The instruction is sequential, explicit, cumulative, and offers practice opportunities, which are lacking in many programs. The phonemic awareness activities increase in complexity, attending to higher levels of phoneme substitution, deletion, and addition. I could go on and on, but I'll end with arguably the most brilliant component that she adds about halfway through the lessons – Part 7, Creative Writing/Syntax. This component begins by requiring children to create different sentences using pre-written phrases, helping them see how the meaning of the sentence changes when the phrases are ordered differently. To add complexity, in later lessons, the creative writing becomes more free-form, allowing students to write in response to optional question prompts at both the recall and inference levels using the informative decodable texts. Anyone looking for an easy-to-use and high-level program to tutor students in reading, look no further than Marvi's Way. — Dale W. Webster, Ph.D., President | CORE Learning
